Reiki can be used to heal the body, mind and spirit. We all have a natural capacity to heal. For example, consider a simple scratch on the arm. When the scratch stops bleeding, the body has already begun the natural healing process. The physical body can begin to heal when the Reiki energy has cleared out the blockages and higher vibration energy moves freely throughout the physical body’s systems. Once the energy is balanced and flowing freely, the physical body can begin to heal itself.
Reiki can help heal the mind and the emotions of the receiver. The thoughts and beliefs that are created in the mind and lead to emotions are of a higher vibration than the physical body. But because Reiki energy is the highest vibration of energy it will influence the mind as well. Oftentimes, emotions created by erroneous beliefs about ourselves can be released during a Reiki session and an emotional healing will begin. Probably the most important benefit of Reiki is that it offers a space in which one can be present with oneself and the opportunity to listen to our still, small voice. The busy world that we live in, with all of the stimulus, does not allow us to listen to our inner voice. And only when we can hear the call of our soul do we step on the path of our life’s purpose. Reiki sessions provide a sacred place to connect with our divine selves and begin our spiritual journey.

11/4/2017 0 Comments Reiki Q&A Part 1: What is Reiki?Simply put, Reiki is a Japanese technique of stress reduction and deep relaxation that also promotes healing. It is a light touch method that works with the body’s energy systems including the aura, the chakras, and the meridians. Reiki will strengthen the body’s energy systems by unblocking stuck or stagnant energy which will increase the natural flow of energy throughout the body, bringing it into balance. The result is the creation of conditions in the body by which the body can do what it is designed to do – heal itself.
Reiki works by accessing the highest vibration in the Universe, the energy of love. The Reiki practitioner connects with the Universe, harnessing the highest form of loving and healing energy, moving it through the body of the practitioner, who acts as the channel, and out through the palms of the hands. The receiver then takes the Reiki energy that is being offered through the practitioner and accepts it into the body where it will automatically move throughout the receiver’s body, impacting the body’s energy systems, which will in turn effect the body’s physical systems. We can observe the same process with the energy of electricity. A current of electricity that is being directed into a light bulb will diffuse energy throughout the room. Take the same electrical current and focus it into a laser beam and you will have energy powerful enough to cut through metal. The Reiki energy is transferred from the Universe through the practitioner through a process called an attunement, which opens the chakras and allows the energy to flow through the body to the palms of the hands. The palms of the hands are natural healing centers of the body. This is evidenced by how we respond to injuries. For example, when we bang our elbow on the desk corner, or our knee on the edge of the coffee table, what is the first thing we do? We ease the pain by putting our hand over it. Every parent knows that the touch of the hand to the child’s back, forehead or face will sooth and comfort. The process of Reiki is simple. The receiver can lie on a massage table or sit in a chair. The practitioner will lightly place the hands on the body, moving them from the head to the feet, paying particular attention to the areas of the chakras or in any specific places of current pain or discomfort. The receiver typically experiences a deep sense of relaxation and connection with the inner self. Generally, the longer the Reiki session, the stronger the effect on the receiver, however, Reiki acts more like an antibiotic than a shot of morphine and the full impact may take a few days. While speaking with a personal trainer the other day she commented that the mind will allow the body to push a little harder, that when the body wants to give up, the mind will tell it to go just a little further. I was reminded that the mind is stronger than the body. This conversation started me thinking about the benefits of Reiki for athletes.
Reiki can assist the athlete both physically and mentally. We all have both a physical body and an energy body. The physical body is made up of the physical systems that we can see, touch, feel. It includes the skeletal system – the foundation or framework of the physical body, the muscular and tissue systems – includes the organs, ligaments and tendons, and the fluid systems – the blood and lymph. The energy body includes the aura – our energy shield surrounding our physical bodies, the chakras – energy spheres that are located along the spine, and the meridians – the energy pathways throughout the body. The energy body directly impacts and governs the physical body. Reiki works specifically and correctly with the energy body, supporting and strengthening the aura, chakras and meridians. Once the body’s energy systems are unblocked and balanced, the impact on the physical body is profound and powerful. The body will become strong, flexible and resilient. The way it was naturally designed to be. Even more compelling than the effect of Reiki on the physical body is the impact of Reiki on the mind. Reiki provides a place to enter a deep state of relaxation where one can connect with the inner self and increase mental strength. All athletes know that performance is 20% physical ability and 80% mental acuity. During a Reiki session, the athlete can focus on and visualize the best performance outcome. And in addition to creating a mental picture of the best athletic outcome, Reiki will provide mental clarity, giving one the ability to maintain focus during an athletic event. During a Reiki session, the receiver is given the opportunity to simply be present – in the moment. Therefore, Reiki will help the athlete to stay in the moment during crucial times when training, playing or competing. Finally, mental strength is not just about self-belief, or the ability to push your body to its limits each training day, it includes making the right decisions at the right time. When one connects with the inner self during Reiki sessions, one will begin to intuitively know and understand what the body needs in terms of nutrition, rest, and play. One can begin to listen to what the physical body needs and the connection between body, mind and spirit becomes complete. 8/29/2017 0 Comments Reiki for ChildrenMy granddaughter and I have a thing. Whenever she gets hurt, she gets a magic kiss. And no matter how big or small the ouch, she feels better. Healing begins with the magic kiss.
In fact, studies suggest that Moms who soothe their child with a kiss can reduce stress by calming the hormones that can contribute to inflammation. At the very least, kisses reduce stress by promoting a sense of being loved and cared for. And the same can be said for the simple touch of the palm of the hand. Any parent knows that a simple touch on the head, the back, or the cheek can instantly soothe and comfort a child. This is one of the reasons that Reiki is great for children. Children are particularly sensitive to healing touch. They haven’t completely lost touch with their divine selves, and they still believe in the magic of love. Because Reiki is a light touch, laying on of hands method of holistic healing, children respond very well to it. It creates a sense of calm that will help reduce stress, increase focus, and relieve anxiety. Children with ADHD can especially benefit as Reiki will decrease some of the hyperactivity experienced, allowing the child to focus on their creativity and positive energy. Also, because Reiki reduces anxiety levels, children will more easily transition through major changes such as the death of a loved one, a divorce, or a move to a new home and school. With the new school year starting soon, some kids may be feeling especially anxious and Reiki can help make the transition much easier. Reiki is an excellent way to help children live calmer, more creative lives. 8/25/2017 0 Comments Getting Unstuck with ReikiHave you ever been in a place where you cannot seem to move forward, no matter how hard you try? Whether it concerns a relationship, your vocation, or physical health? It’s as though you have plateaued – the relationship is stale, the job is going nowhere, and you can’t seem to lose those last 10 pounds, in spite of all the dieting and exercise.
Reiki can help you get “unstuck”. We all have both a physical body and an energetic body that includes (but is not limited to!) the aura, the chakras, and the meridians. The energy body consists of higher vibrations than the physical body. Because Reiki channels the highest vibration of energy, it works specifically with the body’s energy systems. How does this work? Throughout our lives we encounter painful situations. And frequently, particularly when we are children, we are not capable of navigating through the experience in a healthy way. Instead, we stuff the feelings, deep down into our core. And then we convince ourselves that the anger, disappointment and humiliation no longer exist. But we’re wrong. Unresolved feelings will seep into the energy body, just as an untreated infection will ultimately seep into the bone, damaging and debilitating our very foundation leading to erroneous beliefs about ourselves such as “I am not good enough”, “I can’t do this”, or “Things never work out for me.” Once the feelings have lodged in the energy body, they will remain there until they are released. Reiki provides the path for release. Channeling the highest vibration of energy, the energy of love, Reiki will clear and balance the body’s energy systems. The block will be removed, the energy cleared, allowing higher vibrations of energy to flow throughout the body. And when high vibration energy flows throughout the body, it will attract the same. The passion is rekindled in a stagnant relationship, an exciting job opportunity presents itself, and the body responds by releasing the extra weight. Reiki will help you become “unstuck” in any area of your life, allowing one to begin the process of healing from old hurts, and to start living a more joyful life. We are all entitled to be happy and to live the life of our dreams. It is our birthright. The problem is that we are taught from the very beginning of our lives that life is a struggle, you work hard and then you die.
Many of us walk through our entire lives without ever experiencing the true joy that comes from fulfilling our life’s purpose, never really knowing the delight of how it feels to be truly prosperous and abundant. Because prosperity and abundance have nothing to do with how much money one has. True abundance is about having a life that brings you joy. It is a life that is rich in loving relationships, a vocation that you are passionate about, and excellent health in body, mind and spirit. When your health, your work and your relationships are all in alignment, you will naturally experience financial freedom and flow. How do we find our purpose in this life, the gifts that we have to give to the world? We start by coming into center with our divine self. We are all divine souls, having a human experience, and as such we have access to the center of our divine self. We reach this center by being quiet. No phones, tv, radio, nothing to distract. And then we sit and listen to our longings. We ask ourselves what brings us joy? What kind of life would we love to live? And we listen to our inner voice. Once we know what we long for, we can begin to visualize what our dream life looks like. We begin to build the blueprint for the rest of our lives. What does that life look like, feel like, smell like? We use our imagination and dare to dream in big, bold, beautiful colors, textures, and scents. Reiki provides a place to be quiet. A place to connect with our inner longings. Because Reiki provides a sense of deep relaxation, we can dare to vision. Dare to dream in detail of a life that we would love to live. Reiki offers a safe and supportive place to begin the discovery of your life’s purpose, that will lead to building the life of your dreams. A diagnosis of cancer will send a patient reeling into the unknown. How will I respond to cancer treatment? How bad will I feel during the treatment? Will I recover? Reiki can help cancer patients by increasing comfort levels and enhancing healing.
Reiki is a non-invasive technique that has no side effects or complications, therefore, it can be used on cancer patients at any time after their diagnosis and at any stage of their treatment. Reiki induces a state of deep relaxation and stress reduction that will support cancer patients in dealing with the anxiety of the future and the ultimate outcome. The calming aspect of Reiki will provide the patient with a sense of peace that can help with focus and clarity in decision making regarding their treatment. In addition, Reiki will restore the mental and emotional balance in the patient, providing them with emotional fortitude as they move through the treatment process. Reiki will support the patient’s medical treatment by working on the body’s energy systems, promoting conditions by which the body can begin to heal itself. In addition, the American Cancer Society states that many cancer patients have reported that Reiki treatments have lessened the effects of nausea and vomiting after chemotherapy. Hospitals, chemotherapy rooms, and the dispassionate hustle of the medical facilities can be overwhelming to cancer patients. Because Reiki sessions are given in a calm and safe setting, many patients find it beneficial right after the rush and clinical environment of the treatment center by restoring the patient’s overall sense of well-being. Although Reiki should never be used in place of medical cancer treatments, using it in conjunction with traditional medicine will increase comfort, ease the emotional turmoil, and improve the healing process. 7/19/2017 0 Comments Reiki for Grief TherapyWe have all experienced grief in one form or another. Grief is what we feel when we experience a loss. Sometimes we grieve over the loss of a job, a relationship, or the death of a loved one. Unlike other types of negative emotions, grief settles in the heart. Whereas we feel anxiety in the pit of the stomach, tension in the form of a headache, or anger in the core, grief hits us in the heart. Initially the heart feels the piercing pain of loss, and eventually settles into a heavy, dull ache.
The experience of grieving is different for each person. There is no blueprint on how to walk through the experience. There is no right way to grieve, nor is there a time schedule by which to grieve. Reiki works with the individual, allowing the grieving person to spend time in a deep state of relaxation, connecting with the inner self. Because one cannot get too much Reiki, it honors the grieving time for the individual. Acute grief impacts the heart chakra. The heart chakra governs the surrounding physical organs, including the lungs. Frequently, when one has suffered a tremendous loss and is grieving, the physical result is the onset of a respiratory infection, which can lead to pneumonia. Reiki sessions will keep the heart chakra vibrating and reduce the risk of lung infection. Grieving requires us to move in and through it. It takes time to learn how to move in a world that is missing something important. There is no way to move through it without moving in it. Reiki creates a safe space for each person to deal with the loss, eventually moving through to the other side. Grieving is an individual experience; it is a solitary path back to joy. Reiki can help pave the way by providing a means to cope with the loss and help the body stay healthy during the grieving process. 6/21/2017 0 Comments Don't Worry, ListenWorry. That constant feeling of foreboding. The sick feeling that hits you in the pit of your stomach when you awaken. The distressing thoughts that that lurk on the edges of your mind, ready to stampede into the center of your life, distracting your focus, and interfering with your day. And with all this time and attention spent on this emotion, what good does it do? No good. That’s why it’s called worry.
There is a difference between worry and concern. Concern is a matter of interest or importance. To have concern is to acknowledge that there is a solution to a problem within our control. To be concerned about something will lead to action to remedy or fix the problem. Worrying is really about the fear of the unknown. We worry because we are afraid of certain outcomes to difficult situations. Worry is a negative emotion that leads to nothing but increased fear and anxiety. And that is because worry is designed to attach itself to something that we have absolutely no control over. In addition to living with a feeling of dread, we also feel helpless. Because we have no control over the situation we can’t fix it, and because we can’t fix it, we worry some more. And the more we obsess, the harder our imagination works to vision terrible outcomes. What we put our attention on becomes our intention. And before you know it, one of our awful outcomes manifest. How many times have you exclaimed “I knew that was going to happen!” Rather than spend our time worrying, a more positive approach is to acknowledge and accept that we don’t have any control over some things. This is a good time to let go and let Spirit guide us toward the next best step to take. Take a few minutes per day to spend some time quietly with yourself. Listen to what your soul is telling you and then act accordingly. Sometimes we need to get out of our own way. Worry can only hurt, never help, a situation. Shifting our behaviors from worry to being present and honoring our inner voice will relieve any fear or anxiety and lead us to make choices for our highest good. 4/14/2017 0 Comments Living in a Place of GratitudeWhat is gratitude? Gratitude is a sense of thankfulness and appreciation. We are all grateful when we experience something big, something significant. We are grateful when our work is recognized with a job promotion, we are grateful when a loved one recovers from a serious illness, or when we are given the opportunity to experience something on our bucket list. And many of us are grateful for the smaller things - perfect weather for a family event, a gift of theater tickets, or an unexpected afternoon free from work or responsibilities.
But what does it mean to live in a place of gratitude? Simply, it means to keep thoughts of thankfulness and appreciation front and center each day. Living in a place of gratitude is the ability to walk the path of our life and find the beauty in every day. But, this can be challenging, particularly when we are faced with a crisis or great loss. Amid chaos, it is difficult to see the blessings that will result from our experience, and the fear that oftentimes accompanies chaos will create a barrier to feelings of thankfulness and appreciation. Having an awareness of the bigger picture is important to understanding what it means to live in a place of gratitude. Faith in the knowledge that whatever we are experiencing, both the joys and the sorrows, is all part of the journey of our lives. And because our lives are dynamic and constantly changing, we have many opportunities to experience growth through the changes. The growth itself may be painful, but the lesson we receive from the growth is big and significant. Something to be grateful for. An awareness of the bigger picture, coupled with the ability to see beauty in the middle of turmoil and pain, is the foundation of living in a place of gratitude. We can begin the practice of gratitude by thinking of some things for which we are grateful. We may live in our dream home, or we may stay in a single room, either way we have a place to lay our head each night. We may love our job, or we may hate it, either way it puts food on the table. But just because we can find the blessings in the small things, does not mean that we can’t change something in our lives that we don’t like. In fact, living a life of gratitude puts things into perspective, allowing us to enhance our circumstances or change them altogether. A natural result of living in a place of gratitude is the impact that we have on others. When we live a life of gratitude we can be a person of increase to those around us. Because we are grateful for the car that we drive, we can appreciate and be kind to the clerk behind the counter. Because we are grateful that we have the resources to have a night out, we can appreciate the service community that pours our drinks and serves our food. We honor others when we let them know that we are thankful for them and appreciate what they do. Living in a place of gratitude is not always easy, especially when faced with hardship, and being a person of increase doesn’t happen with every encounter with others, but living our lives from a place of gratitude will lead to a life filled with joy and peace.
