As a spiritual person and an energy healer, my first response is an emphatic YES, and that would be the end of the discussion. For me, it’s natural to believe that energy healing is a gift from God, a natural capacity that each human has access to, in spite of the fact that most of us are not aware of this gift. But recently I received an email from Christian woman who posed to me two questions.
1. Does Reiki challenge, oppose, or conflict with one’s belief in Jesus Christ? 2. Are there any Christians that believe in Reiki energy healing? I would like to quickly talk a little science. Einstein said “Everything is energy, and that’s all there is.” Lower vibrations of energy manifest in solid matter, for example a chair, a car, or a pair of shoes. Higher vibrations of energy manifest as non-solid matter, such as x-rays, electricity, or the energy waves that feed our wireless devices. We can easily see solid matter, it’s a chair after all. We can’t see non-solid matter, even though we know it exists because we can either see the final form, such as a lighted room, or we can feel it, like the wind on our face. Energy cannot be created, nor can it be destroyed. It can only be transferred, or converted. And there is also a permeating intelligence that exists all around us. This energy is the highest vibration of all – love and light. This enveloping energy is referred to as chi in China, called prana in India and Tibet, named ki in Japan, to the Hebrews it is ruach, the Lakota say wakan, and the Christians call it the Holy Spirit. To answer the first question –Reiki does not oppose, challenge, or contradict the teachings of Jesus. Reiki is in harmony with the love and light that is Christ. The word Reiki means spiritually guided energy (Rei = God’s wisdom, Ki = Life Force energy). I believe that, among other things, Jesus of Nazareth was a healer. The Bible is full of stories about his healing miracles, accessing and guiding the Holy Spirit to ease people’s suffering. Reiki practitioners also have access to that force – the ki, the Holy Spirit. But as a conduit, or a channel. The energy comes from the Divine. The second question is can a Christian have faith in Jesus Christ and in the power of Reiki Healing? Again, the answer is yes. Christians that believe in a loving God, a God that wants to see his Children happy and prosperous, can also believe that energy healing is a natural alternative in health care. Science has shown us that everything is energy, and if we learn how to manipulate energy to our highest good, we can experience our own miracles. In the Bible Jesus is quoted as saying “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do greater things than these, because I am.” John 14: 12-14. Granted, these are simple answers to big questions, but perhaps this can be a starting point for further discussion. I invite your comments.
